Acne, a common problem in many people, appears in several forms. Nodular and cystic forms are the more serious acne conditions. Even between these two forms, cystic acne is more severe one. This cyst can be treated and drained only by a doctor. This is known to last for weeks or even months. While there are many cures for this problem, one well known prescription is Accutane. If you want to use it, you need to first secure medical attention. Although Accutane is prescribed for most cases of rigorous acne, it is said to cause serious side effects too. Because of this situation, when this medicine is to be prescribed, the patient is expected to sign an understanding of the possible side effects after using this medicine. Unless such a disclaimer is signed by the patient, the prescription is not given. The Accutane side effects can be as ghastly as birth defects caused in unborn babies or even miscarriages. Many cases of still births and premature births reported are also strongly suspected to be due to use of Accutane. Because of these serious hazards, women who are pregnant or planning pregnancy are positively advised to refrain from seeking this medication. Accutane’s horror stories do not end here. It is also said to cause psychological disorders. Many people who used accutane have experienced depression, melancholy, anxiety, stress etc. These psychological impact is so strong that there have been reports of accutane-treated patients committing or attempting suicide. These are also considered as attributable to accutane. Other less terrifying side effects of this medication are also reported such as loss of appetite, body thin down, social aversion or loss of interest in socialization, anger and irritability. It is very critical that if a patient, under accutane treatment, experiences any of the symptoms listed above, he or she should consult the physician immediately. Unfortunately, severe acne becomes so acutely painful that people inevitably seek accutane treatment.

Cystic acne causes deep cysts, inflammation, scarring, and much damage to the skin. Severe acne can sometimes require years of treatment but not in all cases. Almost every case of acne is treatable.

1. One the things you can do is take medication. An oral medicine called Accutane can be taken regularly for a few months. It helps treat cystic acne by reducing the size of oil glands permanently. Even though this medication can be helpful it has many side effects so make sure before you choose any acne treatment make sure you are educated about it. Some of the side effects are the following:

- Breathing Problems
- Chest Pain
- Depression
- Dizziness
- Fainting
- Yellowing Of The Eyes
- Severe Stomach Ache
- Severe Diarrhea
- Hives And Skin Rashes

2. When cystic acne becomes inflamed there is a high chance it will rupture and cause an acne scar. To stop this you can do is ask your doctor about giving you a corticosteroid injection to help treat cystic acne. This injection will melt your cystic acne over period of 2-5 days by lessening the inflammation and promote healing.

3. Another way to treat cystic acne is Isotretinion which is a potent drug for treating severe acne. It is a synthetic retinoid pill that is taken once or twice a day for 15-20 weeks. It is known as a top acne treatment because it treats all of the 3 things that cause acne. These are clogged pores, excess oil production, and inflammation. Even though this is a powerful product it comes with many bad side effects. The side effects are the following:

- Nausea or vomiting
- Severe pain in the chest or abdomen
- Dryness of the skin, eyes and nose
- Trouble swallowing or painful swallowing
- Severe headache, blurred vision or dizziness
- Bone and joint pain
- Nausea or vomiting
- Thinning hair
- Diarrhea or rectal bleeding
- Depression

4. A fourth way to treat acne is by using oral antibiotics. This has been used by many people over the years to treat cystic acne. Oral antibiotics work the same way as topical ones which work to reduce P. acne residue(a large factor in acne) on your skin which leads to inflammation. When You First start using it one you will use a high dosage but later on it will be reduced. Over time the P. acne can become resistant to the antibiotic youre using. When this happens you can usually be prescribed a different one. The main ones used in the U.S. are aredoxycline, erythromycin, minocycline and tetracycline.
